A native of Fort Valley, Georgia, Betty Jean, 74, died quietly at her home on Saturday, July 18, 2020, while surrounded by family and friends.  A 1963 graduate of H.A. Hunt High School, she also attended the Fort Valley State College and is a retired employee of Sunmark Bank.

Bet, as she was affectionately known by her family, was born on December 19, 1945 in Crawford County, Georgia.  She was the third child and daughter of six children born to their parents, Hezzie and Lillian Dixon.

Betty married Artha L. Grace and was a very supportive wife as they journeyed through his military career while parenting and showering their two sons and only daughter with unconditional love and care.  Their journeys included Nuremberg, Germany where their daughter Ginette (Gigi) was born, Fort Carson, Colorado and the Panama Canal Zone where their youngest son Reginald (Reggie) was born.  Their middle son Gerald (Jet) was the only child born in the USA in Fort Valley, Georgia.

Betty was a well-rounded person with many talents.  She was a wife, mother, caregiver, champion bowler, gardener, landscaper, creative seamstress, neighborhood Mom, avid reader and strict disciplinarian with three active children, all the while supporting her husband’s military career that included many deployments and travels.

Betty’s family has always admired and honored her for her unwavering strength when faced with life’s greatest adversities.  She was a tiny giant that wore many “hats” and could rise to any occasion.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rev. (Dr.) Artha L. Grace, her daughter, Ginette Grace Trapp (Greg), her three grandchildren, Justin, Renee and Reggie, three sisters, Dollie Dixon Horton, Sandra Dixon Daniel and Debbie Dixon Tummings (Trevor), three brothers, Daniel Dixon, J.B. Davis and J.T. Dixon, her brothers-in-law, Willie Frank Grace, Herbert Grace (Patricia) and David Grace (Phyllis), a host of relatives including uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins, classmates and lifelong friends who loved her dearly.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ethel and her sons, Gerald and Reginald Grace.
